The 'protectedgroup.com' error page seems to have finally been resolved, well- almost.
First we sorted out the .NET installations;
You need to follow these instructions in order to best assist you:

1. Uninstall any Hide My IP program currently in your computer.
2. Uninstall all previous versions of .NET Framework in your computer (if you have them).
3. Reboot your computer
4. Download .NET Frame work v3.5 from this public link:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details...;displaylang=en
and click the "Download" button
5. After installation of that program, reboot your computer.
6. Download / install Hide My IP (click the version you're currently trying to use)
Hide My IP 2008 http://www.hide-my-ip.com/hidemyip.exe
Hide My IP 2007 http://www.hide-my-ip.com/hidemyip_2007.exe
7. Insert the Key Code & you should be all set.

Cleaning up your .NET files is a good idea to do, though it took a complete break (at HideMyIp's end) and reinstalling hide-my-ip to calm the error.

The error still appears occasionally, though it looks like that could be connected with a corrupt MS Visual Studio installation, even though we are running XP service pack 3.

HideMyIp is however a great service and well worth the liscence fee. We have bought two so far and very happy despite the irratating bug.

unsure.gif Update on 'protectedgroup' error
After a complete re-installation of the .NET and all updates along with the tech guys 'unplugging' and 'plugin' me back in again.
The dreaded error was diminished, but still pops its head up now and again.
The problem seems to lay with the HideMyIp addon thats automatically installed on Firefox.
Even with all other addon's disabled, there is some instability, especially if more than one page is requested. This appears to be causing the error 500 'webmaster@protectedgroup.com'. The instability problem would also account for initial connection delays.

In another part of the HideMyIp programe code, there appears to be a need to reference something in /Program Files/Microsoft Visual Studio 8, as we dont even have Studio8 installed, we occasionally get an error which closes the programe. An XPCOM:EventReceiver error also appears sometimes after closing down HideMyIp and re-booting computer.

We have learnt to live with these faults, purely because the service is so good when its working.
That does not mean we not like it to work perfectly. You tech guys listening?

Hey gang: wink.gif

Ever since I installed hide-my-ip I had the same problem next to the fact that my internet explorer began to crash over and over and started getting error messages that: “ there was some errors in /Program Files/Microsoft Visual Studio 8”...
I tried everything possible and trust me if I say "everything possible"…lol, it took me more than 2 months and I finally came across a forum somewhere 2 days ago... it was suggested to clean my/your system with "Spybot - Search & Destroy" which is a freeware (just Google for it)…in regard to “Microsoft Visual Studio 8 errors”.
I download and installed the program and ran it... I couldn’t believe it myself... at the end the problem was fixed and since the day before yesterday NO internet explorer error or any crash what so ever.
I hope this would also help you fixing your problem with hide-my-ip which is a great program.

I started getting this same message just yesterday. I'm getting it on all U.S. IP addresses I try to use. If I switch to a Canadian IP address the message goes away.
