Streaming video or downloading files while using a proxy server can be a problem with Internet connections. The reception speed depends upon a variety of factors over which we often times have no control.
Factors that influence the speed of a video or download speeds, using a proxy server, include the following:
- The closer you are (geographically) to the source of the stream, the better the speed
- How busy that web site's server is
- How many people are viewing that same video (or downloading the program)
- The faux IP address you are using may also be a factor as it may be a slow IP at that time (change IP's)
- The speed of your computer's processor (and what background programs may be running at that time)
- The speed and amount of RAM you have in your computer
Remember, video streaming (and downloading files) also must pass from that web site's server through an IP proxy server and this inherently will always cause some kind of slow down. Depending on the above factors (and other factors) sometimes the slow down is noticeable, sometimes you can barely notice it at all.
We have also found that DSL service in smaller, less technologically advanced countries can be very poor for streaming (or downloading files), especially on the lower end of the DSL services that are offered in those countries. Of course cable and T1 lines are the best, but not always available or just too expensive for the individual to be worth while.
There are things you can do to be certain you're getting the best possible video streaming (or file download) speed:
- Clear your cache all of the time before watching videos or downloading
- Make sure all unnecessary background program processors are not running
- Switch faux IP to one that may be faster
- If possible, boost your DSL or Cable speed connection by contacting your ISP.
Because of geographical location, you cannot connect to a streaming video website as directly as you would probably like. Therefor, you'll never achieve the speed and/or quality a video website offers with a connection through a proxy server, especially if that proxy server is a great distance from you and/or the source of the video stream. The video quality/speed will not be the same speed as directly connecting to the site offering the streaming video. Its just not possible.
