There is a lot of talk and conjecture about what sites like that do with IP addresses. Those kinds of sites generally never publish their true policy regarding the situation you are talking about.
I also understand that site has gone to some type of "phone verification" system when posting for each ad that a person attempts to post.
If someone is using and IP address (from any source) and simply abusing the posting process as a result, I'm not surprised that they would take that kind of action.
What people need to do is rotate the IP's they're usinig as much as possible. Constantly using the same IP over and over again will result in the situation you described. I realize it is difficult not to use the same IP over and over when a site like that may have "blacklisted" many IP's at one time.
I wonder how long they keep a list of "banned" IP's? Or how long is an IP on that list? Answers to those questions would be very interesting.
Hi Doug.
I've just registered to the forums although I've had Hide-my-IP, premium service for a while now.
The answer to your question about how long the IPs are blocked for on craigslist is at least 190 days. That's the IP block message you'll get when you try to post on cl with any one of the IPs. Yes, spammers have ruined being able to use them to post on craigslist.
I have a question for anyone here. Does anyone know where I can find a reliable, credible service that offers a membership for lists of open U.S., anonymous proxies in IP:port, text format? I don't want PlanetLab/Codeen, government, education, military, etc.
I was thinking some kind of service/site where you can log in and get lists of good, working open proxies in IP:port, text format. The lists would be renewed every so many hours or so.
I need the proxies to be open proxies because I use them in a personal script where I copy and paste them into a notepad list in my script. The script goes through the list, one by one, no authentication, user ID or password needed.
I understand that open proxies don't last long but as long as the service would keep pretty updated lists that would be fine. I could renew my list as often as I would need to.
I'll try posting this in another forum/area if I see one that looks more appropriate for this question.
Thanks in advance for any advice or information you can provide.
