I will tell you, in Chronological Order, what happened to my poor computer last night:
1. I installed Hide-my-ip last night, and the installer just STOPPED responding altogether. (This does not typically happen when I install software)
2. So, I started a task manager and tried to quit out of the install, but foolishly lost my patience. I waited for over half and hour for Windows to quit out of the install, went off, did something else, came back, and decided to just pull the plug on the install process. So, I just disconnected the power and shut down completely, (which probably wasn't the thing to do...
3. Then, I turned my computer back on. And it took TEN MINUTES to reboot. Literally. I TIMED it with my watch! Ten minutes? Wow, alright, that's never happened before. My computer will boot in under a minute just about, 100% of the time. This has never happened until just last night.
4. Once I'd logged back into windows after I'd restarted the computer, I discovered that my internet connection had been totally shot! I can't get onto the internet at all, now.
5. So, I'd thought I'd aborted the install by just hitting the power off switch (I know I shouldn't have done that), but I saw "Hide-My-IP" in my list of installed programs.
6. I thought it might be prudent to go to my Control panel and Uninstall Hide-my-IP
7. But my computer is still having problems. It's still taking forever! to boot up, and I still can't get online at all. I'm looking at my installation of Hide-My-IP as the culprit because I've never had these problems till last night, AND these problems started virtually immediately upon my attempt at installing Hide-My-IP.
So, is this common? Has this happened to anyone else? Is there a fix for it?
I'm not really interested in re-installing Hide-My-IP at all. I just want to know if anyone else has experienced similar troubles, and how have you solved this problem in the past?
